Learn To Play Golf The Correct Way
On a recent trip to the library I counted all of the golf books and DVDs they had on the shelves. Being golf season obviously some items are checked out. There were 147 books and 71 DVDs on golf! In each item’s case the author believes he is bringing either a fresh approach to teaching or new insights to the game that will help turn the ordinary golfer into a better player. While there are basic fundamentals that all agree on, in some areas they disagree and can actually be teaching completely opposite principals.
What is the average player to do? Read and watch all 218 offerings, try out their ideas and see what works. Not happening!
I am a firm believer in finding a PGA professional with whom you are comfortable. He/she must be able to relay their knowledge in layman’s terms and not have any “attitude”. Patience and compassion are the two attributes I want in my teacher.
Either learn to play or get a tune-up with your pro, and when the time comes let him help you with both buying and fitting your new clubs. I understand lessons can be pricy but if you learn the fundamentals correctly the first time or if you only need small corrections your money is well spent.
My wife’s pro says “Your husband will tell you he needs that new $400 driver. He doesn’t. He needs to spend the money on lessons before that driver will help him play better”. He is right!
This blog is completely independent and has not been financially supported by the PGA club pros. (Unfortunately)
