Golf Swing Connection Revisited
At Tales From The Bunker we have talked several times about connection or maintaining the relationship between the arms and the body during the swing.
This came to mind while watching the video from Monday’s blog about golf basics. Since the connection to the golf club starts with the golf grip (your hands), extends thorough your arms and finally ends with your body, this relationship is critical to a consistent and powerful golf swing.
The power in a golf swing comes from the use of the body’s major muscle groups. Most amateurs in an effort to maximize the golf swing’s power try to make as big a shoulder turn a possible. But if you take the club back with the shoulder joints only, your deprive yourself of the strength of the larger muscles in the shoulder.
If you watch the instructor swing at the beginning of the video you will notice immediately that when his body stops during the backswing so do his arms, thus maintaining connection. Since he has a relatively short backswing and slow tempo it is easy to see. Some of the tour pros are as limber as cooked spaghetti and swing so fast that it is hard to see the connection.
Next time you go to the range use the video as a model of how to maintain the relationship between your arms and your body. You will be happy with the results.
As always do not forget to check out our TheEscapePlace stores on eBay, Amazon and Bonanza. They will help your golf game and more!
Remember to keep ‘em in the fairway.
