Definitely Time for A Vacation

Again illness has struck me down. There must be something in my past that is allowing karma to get even with me. My last ailment is Epiploic Appendagitis. You are correct that no one has ever heard of this but trust me you do not want it. There are no long term consequences to it or any treatment for it. All the medical profession can do is give you good pain medication and tell you to wait it out.

We are leaving for a long planned vacation to Alaska tomorrow that I am hoping to enjoy but the first few days will be spent in a hotel room. After that I might be good to go, we shall see.

This is supposed to be a golf blog so is Rory the real deal?

Enough about golf…. We are returning from Alaska on July 5th, hopefully rested and healthy.

Our son is staying at our home in our absence to take care of our beloved cat. If only one is alive when we return home my money is on the cat!

Talk to you after July 5th and as always…keep ‘em in the fairway!

Is the U.S. Open a Fair Test of Golf?

With one round in the books and Rory McIlory off to his usually fast start, the one thing that seems absent this year is the annual universal complaints from the competitors about the unfairness of the U.S.G.A. course setup.

The rain on Thursday morning certainly took some of the teeth out the course. But the intermediate cut and the rough seems shorter this year.  By Sunday the greens will return to 14 on the stimpmeter and the pin placements will be devilish but the real question is what the appropriate course set is up to determine the best player.

While getting my nachos and chips ready for the second round I found this video from Jack Nicklaus in which he discusses his thoughts on the proper set up for a U.S. Open.  To paraphrase his video, the course should have some holes that favor the long hitters (and penalize the straight hitters) and some that favor the straight hitters (and penalize the long hitters.).  Makes a great deal of sense to set up the course so it does not favor any particular type of player but rather lets the players determine who is the best player.

As always keep ‘em in the fairway.

P.S. Where are the Americans?

I Am Almost Back!

To my loyal readers I am sorry there have been no new posts recently but I have been quite ill and am only now beginning to regain my strength. Trust me you do not want to know the details as it was very unpleasant and a bit gross.

I am still not up to writing something new (or playing golf) so I am going to reshow my favorite fitness video of Vijay Singh, the hardest working man if golf. If we all would work so hard what could we achieve? Maybe not immortality but an improved golf swing and no more beer belly would be nice.

I will be back in a couple of days with all new blogs for Tales From the Bunker. Until then thank you for your patience and as always…Keep ‘em in the fairway.
